We did a job in the winter of 2007-2008 for a couple who owned an old farmhouse. They had built an addition over twenty years ago.

Before

When I looked at the job I could see that the addition had some issues that needed to be addressed. The deck had pulled away from the house and we could see rotten wood where the deck had been. The owners wanted this to be repaired of course.

Rotten wood under window and rim joist

They also wanted to add a wrap around porch with a gazebo on the corner. When we started the job we removed the siding and found the cause of the problem. When the siding was installed , the installers neglected to install tarpaper or house wrap behind the siding.

More of the same

Some would think this is a small detail and that vinyl siding will shed water but, as the pictures show vinyl siding is anything but waterproof.

House is sealed with styrofoam, joists taped, we installed housewrap after framing

Vinyl siding lets water in around windows, doors and corners. The same is true of many exterior finishes. At Ramer contracting we believe it is important to take care of details like installing housewrap properly.

Ready for landscaping

We also install ice and water sheild behind decks. Here are some pictures. And yes we did install housewrap!

We used trex decking and vinyl railing

Another job finished by Ramer Contracting
