The client was not happy with the workand let the contractor go. The roof was leaking and the client had lost all confidence in the contractor. The client hired us to make the job good. We removed the roofing and sheathing. We also re-framed a large part of the roof. Next we installed plywood sheathing with lifetime shingles over top. We then finished the soffit and fascia with aluminum. We also did a lot of the interior trimwork as well. This job reinforced in our minds how important it is to get the job done right the first time. They had built an addition over twenty years ago. When I looked at the job I could see that the addition had some issues that needed to be addressed. The deck had pulled away from the house and we could see rotten wood where the deck had been. The owners wanted this to be repaired of course.
They also wanted to add a wrap around porch with a gazebo on the corner. When we started the job we removed the siding and found the cause of the problem. When the siding was installed , the installers neglected to install tarpaper or house wrap behind the siding. Some would think this is a small detail and that vinyl siding will shed water but, as the pictures show vinyl siding is anything but waterproof. Vinyl siding lets water in around windows, doors and corners. The same is true of many exterior finishes. At Ramer contracting we believe it is important to take care of details like installing housewrap properly. We also install ice and water sheild behind decks. Here are some pictures. And yes we did install housewrap! |
